Over half of local ranking isn’t on your website at all.

This is the part most agencies leave out of the pitch, because it makes the retainer harder to sell. In 2026 your Google Business Profile carries roughly a third of local ranking weight and your reviews another fifth. That is more than half the outcome sitting in two places, and neither of them is your homepage.

Your profile is doing more work than your site

Eight of the ten highest-weighted local ranking factors live inside Google Business Profile — primary category above all, then services, attributes, hours and photos. A half-filled profile caps how far the best website in your city can carry you.

Review recency now beats review count

This flipped recently, and most businesses have not noticed. Recency climbed from roughly twentieth to a top-five factor, which means 200 reviews with nothing in six months now sits behind 80 with a steady weekly trickle. A great year in 2024 does not rank you today.

Distance is the one thing nobody can sell you

Google weights proximity between the searcher and your actual address heavily, and no amount of spend changes where you are. Any agency promising the map pack across the whole GTA is either misunderstanding that or hoping you do. What we can do is win the areas you are genuinely near, and the specific searches nobody is fighting for.

What local SEO actually involves

Not a mystery, and not a monthly report full of numbers that never turn into calls. These are the things that move local ranking, in roughly the order they matter.

Google Business Profile, set up properly

Primary category chosen deliberately, every service listed, attributes, hours, service area and real photos. It is the single highest-weighted asset in local search and the one most often left half-done.

A review habit, not a review push

A request link, the right moment to send it, and a routine that keeps a steady trickle coming. Steady beats a one-off burst now that recency outranks volume.

City and neighbourhood pages that earn their place

Real pages for the areas you genuinely work, each with something specific to say. Thin pages with the city name swapped are the version Google has spent two years demoting.

The technical layer

LocalBusiness schema, consistent name-address-phone everywhere, fast mobile loads, clean titles and headings. Unglamorous, quick to fix, and it stops the rest from being wasted.

Citations and consistency

Your details matching across the directories that matter. Lower weight than it used to carry, but inconsistency actively costs you, so it is worth doing once and keeping right.

Measured on calls, not rankings

Calls, direction requests and form fills from your profile and site. A ranking that produces no phone calls is a screenshot, not a result.

Local SEO plans

Three ways to do this, starting at nothing.

Local SEO in Canada typically runs $800 to $1,500 a month. These are a fraction of that because you are not paying for an account manager, a sales team or a twelve-month contract — and because the free tier does the part that matters most.

Every plan is month-to-month. Cancel whenever, and the profile and pages stay yours.

How we start, in three steps.

1

We audit what you already have

Your profile, your reviews, your site and the three competitors beating you. Usually the fix list is shorter and cheaper than people expect.

2

We fix the foundation

Profile, schema, consistency and your service-area pages — the free tier, done once and done right. Most of the movement comes from here.

3

You decide if you want more

If your category is quiet, the foundation may be all you need, and we will say so. If it is competitive, that is what Growth and Compete are for.

How much does local SEO cost in Toronto?

Most Canadian agencies charge $800 to $1,500 a month, often on a six or twelve-month contract. Ours is free with a $129/month care plan, $140/month for Growth, or $350/month for Compete, all month-to-month. The gap is not a trick — it is that you are not funding an account manager, a sales team or a long contract, and that the highest-value work is a one-time setup rather than something that genuinely needs redoing every month.

Why is your local SEO so much cheaper than other agencies?

Fair question, and worth being suspicious about — under $500 a month is often a warning sign of automated tools or outsourced work. Here it is because the free tier is the setup, which is one-time work by nature, and because we are small enough not to carry the overhead a full agency does. What we do not do is promise volume of activity. Twenty citations a month is not a strategy, it is a line item.

How long does local SEO take to work?

Google Business Profile changes can move the map pack within weeks, which is why the free tier is the first thing we do. Website and content work in a competitive GTA category takes three to six months for real movement and closer to a year for the valuable city-wide terms. Anyone quoting faster than that on the hard terms is guessing. There is a fuller answer in our article on how long local SEO actually takes.

Can you guarantee I’ll rank in the map pack?

No, and neither can anyone else honestly. Google weights how close you are to the person searching, and nobody can move your address. What we can tell you before you spend anything is whether your category and location are realistically winnable, and which specific searches are the ones worth going after. Sometimes the answer is that your money is better spent elsewhere, and we would rather say that early.

I was burned by an SEO company before. Why is this different?

It is the most common thing people tell us, usually after a year of reports full of impressions and no extra phone calls. Three differences: everything is month-to-month, so we have to keep earning it; we report on calls and direction requests rather than ranking screenshots; and we will tell you when the foundation is enough and you do not need to pay us monthly at all.

Do I need a website for local SEO, or just a Google profile?

You can rank in the map pack with a strong profile and no website, and some businesses do. But your profile is far stronger when it points at a real site, the website is where people check you out before calling, and it is the only part of the setup you actually own. Google can suspend a profile overnight. It cannot suspend your website.

Do you do local SEO outside Toronto?

Yes — across the GTA, including Mississauga, Brampton, Vaughan, Markham, Oakville and Hamilton, and we have a page for each. Hamilton in particular is the most winnable market in the region right now, simply because fewer local competitors are doing this properly.

What happens if I cancel?

Your Google Business Profile, your reviews and every page we built stay yours — they are on your property, not ours. That is deliberate. A plan you can leave without losing anything is the only kind worth selling.

Find out if you can actually win before you spend.

Tell us your business and city, and we’ll look at your profile, your reviews and the competitors ahead of you. If the honest answer is that your money is better spent elsewhere, we’ll tell you that instead.
